How we choose what to recommend

We start with what the product has to do: the size of the plot, the plants, the climate and the budget. We compare real specifications, read the maker’s instructions and safety notes, and say plainly when a cheaper or simpler option will do. A commission never decides which product appears, or how it is described.

How to spot an affiliate link

Every guide that contains affiliate links says so near the top. The links themselves are marked as sponsored, so search engines know they are paid links. Buttons that say “Check price” lead to a seller’s website.

What we do not do

• We do not accept payment to rank a product higher or to change a review.
• We do not claim to have tested a product unless we have, and we say how.
• We do not hide limits or problems we know about.
